RESERVED FOR HITOSHI (10-7-21) For sale is quite possibly the nicest mid-century dining set on the planet - a fully-restored Niels Moller rectangular/expandable dining table in Brazilian rosewood perfectly matched with eight Moller 78/62 rosewood dining chairs in newly-upholstered, top-grain black leather seats. Circa 1960s and just recently restored, I've refinished many dining sets over the years and this one simply tops them all...keen attention was paid to every detail of its restoration so its now in absolutely gorgeous condition, certain to be the focal point of your dining space.
OVERVIEW: This is not your average dining set, rather part work of art...part livable investment...part functional furniture. Its a strikingly beautiful dining ensemble exuding brilliant Brazilian rosewood throughout, now ready to graciously host your family gatherings for the next 30+ years, then pass onto the next generation for their enjoyment.
TABLE DETAILS: The rectangular rosewood dining table is of the utmost quality and in pristine condition after being recently restored. It now exudes that wonderful, deep-and-rich rosewood coloring and has just been professionally restored and finished with a protective catalyzed lacquer coating for both protection against general usage and sun fading. Closely inspect the pictures and you'll also notice the beautiful tabletop wood graining that is book-matched meaning one congruent woodgrain pattern all the way from one end to the other...they certainly don't make furniture of this quality anymore.
Be sure to notice the bull nose table edging and tapered legs that are pushed out way out to the corners for added legroom underneath...this is Danish quality and styling at its finest from one of the premier makers of Danish furniture - JL Mollers Mobelfabrik. Table retains its Moller medallion on the underside of the table frame verifying its authenticity (see photos). Concealed leaves are just a bit darker than the main tabletop area, to be expected after years of being stored but not too much they detract from the overall beauty (in my opinion). In short, the coloring/tone is quite close after restoration and it presents beautifully overall.
TABLE SIZING/SCALE: The scale of this table would be well suited for medium-to-larger sized dining spaces as the table is both wider and longer than normal dining tables of the era measuring 59.25" x 39.5" with two 22.75" concealed leaves readily available to quickly expand it to 104.75" when both hidden leaves are drawn out - enough for eight-ten people. Normal dining table height, 29" high.
CHAIR DETAILS: Moller chairs are widely known as the epitome of Danish design; yet within the Moller grouping of designs, the model 78 stands out as something truly special. Notice how the lovely, curved backrests slightly taper from the seat to the sculpted horn atop each vertical back support. That same sculptural horn element appears on each front leg too for a consistent look. Chairs still retain the manufacturer marked "J.L. Moller Models" and Danish Furniture Control stamping verifying their authenticity. And technically, there are six model 78 dining chairs (armless) and two rare model 62 (captains chairs version aka Carvers chairs ) but you get the idea.
CONDITION AND DETAILS: These items are no longer made in Brazilian rosewood, making this set not only exquisite but also ultra rare/valuable. As with all vintage furniture, there are small signs of wear/patina/nicks/etc. throughout that I've addressed but still remain yet don't detract. I took numerous photos in various lighting to give an idea of the overall luster/beauty, as you can they present beautifully overall.
