Restored pair of Lawrence Peabody wicker mid-century lounge chairs, circa 1960s

For sale is this exceptional pair of restored mid-century modern wicker lounge chairs designed by the legendary Lawrence Peabody for Richardson Nemschoff, circa 1960s. Known for their iconic sculptural silhouette, classic rattan wicker “cradle” seats and organic look, this pair have been meticulously and professionally restored bringing them back to their original glory while also preserving vintage integrity – now exquisitely upholstered in an hunter green colorway for a classic and timeless mid-century look.

OVERVIEW: This rattan chair design is one of Peabody's most decorated achievements, having earned the 1962 International AID Design Award and features that distinctive sculptural frame with flat-curved, tapering armrests extending from the curved back rail in one continuous form…like the chair is hugging you while sitting in it. This unique wicker/rattan silhouette remains highly sought after by mid-century aficionados.

SEATS: Have just been professionally-reupholstered (by the well-known MCM upholstery shop here in Seattle - HM Duke Design) in a durable yet classic green/olive faux leather and meticulously designed/tapered to fit perfectly within the rattan seats…ready to exude a comfortable and fantastic MCM/retro yet classic vibe in your space for the next 30+ years.

CONDITION: The frames have just been reconditioned and given a new protective lacquer finish, the frame coloring is a honey-toned walnut/oak (if that makes any sense) so would blend with a wide-array of color schemes. This chair design is known for the bottom rattan portion sagging over time just from the weight of someone sitting, so the rattan has been thoroughly restored throughout and seat-bottom portions have been reinforced with sturdy synthetic furniture strapping underneath providing a “hidden from everyday view” yet resilient foundation for the bottom seat cushions and chair lounger. I've taken photos with and without the cushions to showcase those lovely frames, hand-woven wicker seat cradles, support strapping, etc.

Keen attention was paid to every detail of restoration so these two are now in absolutely gorgeous condition. As with all vintage furniture, there are minor blemishes that I have addressed/blended but overall they present beautifully - certain to be the collective focal point of your space!

28.5” wide x 30.5” high x 30.5” deep ; 17” floor-to-seat height (I'm 6'3" and these fit me just fine).
