One of the most iconic chairs ever produced, for sale is an authentic Egg Chair designed by Arne Jacobsen and manufactured by Fritz Hansen. The original Egg was designed in the 1950s for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and they are still in production today as their so unique, popular and classic...definitely one of the most unique and recognizable mid-century chairs of all time.
OVERVIEW: This biomorphic beauty cradles and supports the human body while allowing for conversation or privacy, and offers 360° of movement too. This model (3316) also has a tilt function for optimal "lean-back-and-relax" comfortabilty - all supported by an aluminum base stamped "FH (Fritz Hansen) Made in Denmark, 3316-2022" verifying its authenticity.
HISTORY: This particular Egg was purchased directly from the son of the original owners; they bought it new from the Fritz Hansen store in New York City and brought it cross-country where its spent the past few decades in their Seattle-area Lake Washington waterfront home. I'd guess this one dates to the 1970s or 80s but am uncertain its exact age though.
CONDITION: The chair is constructed of an organic, sculpted fiberglass body recently covered in a classic black boucle upholstery with hand-stitched seams. The fabric is a couple of years old, so it's not brand-new but in stellar condition after just being professional cleaned with the cushioning underneath still in great shape as well. Fabric looks/feels quite similar to Outback by Kvadrat, 100,000+ abrasion durability. I'd rate the upholstery condition as a 9 or 9.5 out of 10, with plenty of life left on it. Overall, it presents beautifully.
DIMENSIONS: 42" high x 34" wide x 32" deep ; seat height is 15" from floor.
